Here's another vid from the cutting room - this was back in the day when Ewa and I were still picture cutting Straightheads. You all should be able to watch this with no probs, it's public on YouTube, though as usual the clip might crash just as it's getting to the REALLY good bit (not my doing folks, honest). I'll leave you to guess what the "good bit" is.... Ewa has gone on to edit another Film Four movie, based on the novel Brick Lane by British writer Monica Ali.
Julia Short our UK distributor - she's a good thing, we like her, and you too Colin - tells me she might give me a peek at the poster visuals sometime soon. She seems a little nervous about how I'll react, but she needn't be. Sure, Straightheads doesn't sit neatly in a pigeonhole, it's a thriller but not 100% throwaway genre fare, and certainly not arthouse either, so where exactly do you pitch it? The guys at Verve really know what they're doing, they have my total confidence, and they want people to go and see this film at least as much as I do, so we're all on the same side. We'll glean a few insights once the press screenings start in November, I'm sure - before the big moment of truth in February (tbc!) when we unleash it on the British public.
I'll keep you posted on the doc - it's going out on Channel Four here in the UK in early September, time and date tbc. Such a pleasure to be moving forward this fast on this one-hour documentary, after the glacier-like pace of movie development. We've nearly finished the edit, it's starting to feel good and tight, though Will Grayburn the editor and I have a couple more seven-day weeks to go on it. Will edited the documentary "Inside Deep Throat" by the way, which is released theatrically in the US and played at Sundance last year.
