The Straightheads Trailer

« November 2006 | Main | January 2007 »

Sony info (or lack of)

Regarding email addresses at Sony, the only info I could get from Lumina was this
:

bretz@videofilmes.com.br – Luiz Bretz in

Brazil

scott@horizon1ent.com – Scott Clayton in

Australia

pk@centpart.ru – Peter Kartsev in

Russia

Now, as you've probably noticed, these addresses don't include the word "Sony". I suppose they're contacts for territories which have already been sold on to third party distributors. Worth trying anyway...

As for Sony itself, your guess is (er.. hooray!?) just as good as mine. I don't think Lumina are really chewing their nails about what happens next, now they've sold the film on... So I leave it to your ingenuity, all you ingenious, cunning people. Just remember not to piss too many distribution execs off - there's inundation and INUNDATION. You get me?

xx

a little competition...

Sh0389 OK - I've persuaded Ms Julia at Verve to let a couple of people who read this blog into the press screening on the evening of January 11th.  The deal is that if you can get yourself to the rendez-vous in central London on the night, you'll be taken to the cinema and you'll see the film on the big screen before anyone else out there. How does that sound? No cast members will be there, by the way, and I might not be able to make it either. It's really for the press and a few other invited people to see what they make of Straightheads.

To help Ms Julia select the lucky ones (and she will be the one to decide, as I will be somewhere where the internet don't generally run) I'm asking those of you who are interested to post a  video clip, 1 minute or less, of any quality (can be webcam from a webcafe, e.g.) which will be judged purely on its ingenuity, wit and, well, whether Julia likes it or not. She's got a BIG, no-nonsense personality and a matching sense of humour so no holds barred. NO holds whatsoever, entendido y anotado?

The theme of this SHORT clip should be "Straightheads - the musical".

Now for the technical side: go to YouTube. Find the Straightheads channel. Log in as "straightheads", password  "straightheads".  Then post and share your clips. It's that simple. And if it ain't then you'll just have to work it out with the help of  Ms Julia. I'll try and check in once from my secret destination, but I won't be able to watch video until I get back to UK just a few days before the screening.Sh0394_1

Good luck everybody, the key is to be original, funny maybe, and above all surprising. Get your friends in on it or do it all by your sweet self. No matter. Production values will not come into it, it's a democratic competition. I can't wait to see what you come up with...

So I'm going to get on a plane now. Bye, and have a great holiday wherever you are.  And if you're not having a holiday, better luck next year.

Any questions, just post them here and Julia or the ingenious Alistair will pick up on them right away. By the time I get back, the lucky ones will have been notified. Oh, and another thing. The BBFC (British Board of Film Censors) have rated Straightheads "18" and decided it will carry a warning about "strong violence". Just so you know.

By the way: what do you think Alice is up to in the photo? See if you can guess...

Nos vemos. Bonnes vacances a tous.

promo vs trailer

Well while I was gone that ancient sales promo was getting kicked all over cyberspace... actually it was a hurriedly-assembled compilation of the footage from an EARLY early-doors rough-cut, designed to give buyers at the Berlin film market something to dribble over. But then some enterprising member of the blogtribe took it upon him/herself to make it public property and unfortunately I don't think there's a hell of a lot Lumina or Verve or anyone can do about it now... Apart from arrest the whole lot of you! Send you to the gulag. But then who would read my blog? Or go and see the movie??? No. Wrong. Let them live, your honour, pleeez now, mfundi. It's only a f#### promo anyway. The soon-to-be-posted Straightheads trailer is going to kick its bottom.

Now, the trailer, it is being tweaked as I type. I saw a new cut two days ago and it yelled at me, loud and clear: "You ought to be ashamed you're even considering watching this movie" whilst whispering to the side of me which occasionally falls drunk into canals: "You NEED to watch this movie". So Julia and I should be signing it off tomorrow morning....

The trailer shall be posted. As soon as possible. As soon as it's ready. We know you're craving it. I can't wait. Soon. Really soon. Stay away from canals. And rivers. Oh, and reservoirs.

the campaign??

Sh0320So how's it going with the deluge of emails to Sony Pictures? I'm relying on you to make an impression by sheer weight of numbers. We want Straightheads in as many theatres in USA and round the world as possible, and the outcome largely depends on how many people actually BEG for it to come to their city, or the nearest forest crossroads. If you need me to find out some names for you to address your emails to, just let me know. Also, tell me what kind of responses you get from those nice people at Sony...

Australia - not sure, will ask the beautiful people at Lumina.

There was a screening last week in London for some of the exhibitors - the folk who actually book the films into cinema chains and the response was terrific, which bodes well for Straightheads launch on 20 April 2007 (you can be sure that date will slip by a few days/weeks either way).
I'm told they deemed it a multiplex-worthy movie with mainstream appeal. That's slightly worrying, it means there are officially a lot of twisted people out there... There will be a few more screenings here in London, including a screening for the magazines in early Jan, to which we will be inviting a lucky few of the tens of thousands of readers of this blog.

Now, I'm planning to post various versions of the Straightheads poster, as you liked that poster-brainstorming clip so much. Also the final one, konyechno. AND there's talk of an official Straightheads website, to rival my humble blog. Your loyalties will be seriously divided, my friends...
