Well hello, it's been ages. Now that Straightheads / Closure is out in the world doing its own thing, and we're coming up to a year from the UK launch, I'm wondering whether to keep Straightblog going. Maybe now that the production is well behind me I can be a little more candid about the process of making the movie, and the rather fraught passage from script to screen, via the rewrites by UK TV writer Bryan Elsley... Dunno, it's up to you people out there, the readers. What do you think?

Thanks for writing again, Dan. Us, readers, will be more than happy to learn about the rewrites and the behind-the-scenes of the creative process. Not sure if you can be totally honest in your answers, but I have a few questions. E.g. was the idea of giving minimal background for characters executed exactly the way you wanted it to be. What exactly got deleted in the process of rewriting? What was added despite your intentions? I'm looking forward to your next entry. What sort of pressure did you get from the producers? I wish you could tell us about your current and future projects as well. I have to say I enjoyed your blog very much and I hope you'll keep in touch with us. Cheers.

The one big question I would have for you, Dan, is whether we might see an extended cut of the movie on DVD at some point in the future because there is so much material we've been made aware of over the last two years that was cut from the movie (the deleted scenes on the final release DVD only hint at just a little of it) it would be so cool to see what is still out there that we may not have seen, even raw footage. How about it as a future project?

Dan, I for one would love to learn any & all details/secrets you feel you want or can to get off your chest. I enjoyed your movie very much, and felt the UK reviewers were pre-disposed and determined to NOT like a movie about the themes in Straightheads. From the way they completely missed your message and misrepresented many plot points, I doubt many of them were even watching, since many came off dumber then rocks. I do think that there must have been some things done to the script & editing which fell outside of your intentions. Some things just didn't feel like they were coming from the same source I was seeing post in this blog. btw, I just want to say that I believe that SONY did a piss poor job of promoting this gem of a movie. With 'Brave One' opening just months later and getting a wide release, it seems SONY really let you down and it's actually the second time they've failed Gillian, their dist/promo of House of Mirth was abysmal as well.

I'm very interested to hear your thoughts now when all the pressure of making and releasing this movie is well behind you. Anything you are willing to share with us will be truly appreciated. I also wonder if there is any chance that you have more behind the scenes coverage? Or some stills that haven't been published? And DO post about your upcoming projects as well! All the best and it was great to hear from you again.

Hey there, Dan! It's great to hear from you again! Hope you've been keeping well and busy.
I'd very much like to see Straightblog continue. Anything you have to share with us would be most welcome! Would I be greedy in asking if we can maybe also look forward to new videos or pictures from the production or publicity posted along with your look back on Straightheads? I know that I'd welcome them too.
Anyway...once again it's great to hear from you again and I look forward to seeing what you decide about the future of Straightblog. :)
Take care,
Alan.

It would be very interesting to hear your candid comments on the tortuous route from your brain to the final film we saw on screen. Good to hear from you again. What are you doing currently?
